Comparison between a traditional burner and our Ripagreen® tools

When it comes to comparing and choosing a weed control method that does not use phytosanitary products, there is a wide choice of equipment. There are steam, foam, infrared and burner thermal weeders as well as hot air weeders. Thermal weeding with a conventional burner and thermal weeding with a product like Ripagreen have similarities, but also significant differences. We explain it all to you.

Treatment method

The traditional burner uses an open flame which is long and uncontrollable and burns the plant whereas Ripagreen® uses a thermal weed control technique which consists of only heating the weeds at high temperature without burning them thanks to a specific technology and equipment.

Efficiency

Thermal weed control with a traditional burner is effective in destroying weeds in the first instance, but it can also damage desirable plants in the vicinity due to the high heat. Thermal weed control with Ripagreen is also effective, but it is more targeted due to its controlled flame, which destroys weeds without damaging the surrounding plants.

In addition, the burner has the opposite effect: its use creates ashes that can be used as fertiliser and thus increase the proliferation of weeds.

Safety

Using a traditional burner for weeding can be dangerous as it can cause fires if used inappropriately. The Ripagreen® thermal weeder is considered much safer, as it uses innovative and patented technology with precise temperatures and specific equipment with many safety features to minimise the risks to humans and the environment.

Consumption

Traditional burners tend to operate at high pressure, which means that they generally consume more gas than Ripagreen® weed control products which operate at low pressure. Ripagreen® weed killers are designed to maintain a low and constant pressure, which allows them to optimise combustion efficiency and reduce gas consumption. The “click&start” system allows gas to be consumed only when it is needed to destroy weeds, whereas a burner is usually on continuously.

In addition, Ripagreen® weed killers work with the Venturi system which allows to use 94% ambient air and only 6% gas! This technique optimises the use of gas and reduces propane consumption. Traditional burners, on the other hand, are not equipped with this technology and tend to consume much more gas to obtain the same amount of heat.

Environmental impact

Using a traditional burner to weed can cause greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, whereas thermal weeding with Ripagreen® is considered more environmentally friendly as it uses less gas and does not burn the plants. In addition, special equipment is used to minimise the risks to health and the environment.
